Arran from all sides
,

Up, up and away.

Arran island Schotland vanaf de veerboot op een mistige dat. Je ziet een grijze lucht en een g]heuvel waar een heel klein beetje licht de heuvel iets groen kleurt

The ferry arrives at Lochranza and we travel east.

They say that, when you’re over the hill you pick up speed. But, once we were over the hill the weather improved. Arrival in Lochranza on the west coast of Arran is decidedly wet and gloomy. The visit to Lochranza distillery puts us in better spirits, reflected in improved weather as we head east. We have not yet seen Arran from all sides, but what we see so far is inviting.

Towards the east side of Arran

Arran from all sides. travelling east on the A841 but looking towards the west.Grassy hillside withe a white road to the left. the road is heading over a low pass. Sky is mostly cloudy but one.small dappled patch o blue reflects the sun on the foreground

A chance encounter

Two small white dogs. They are west highland white terriers looking towards teh viewer situated in a green hilly landscape with bracken in the foreground

Near a lovely burn there I spot a lady grooming her two West Highland White terriers, or Westies as they are also known. There was a time when it was my big wish to own a westy. Now I just said hello to these two cute little guys.

Two west highland white terriers close to each other walking, one with a pink leash and the other with a blue leash The westies are in grassy surroundings omn the island Arran. A green hil can be seen in the background
West highland white terrier. Head and part of body. Small round face with white hairs, pointy ears two beady black eyes and a black nose and a pink tongue make up a cute westy. The head is close to the camera . There is a black leash collar, and the body is quite small in the frame

And this is what it looked like on the east side of the island.

East side of arran Island. Patch of grassy land overlooking a bay with bleu hills in the distance. There is the outline of tree branches in the top half of the frame

East to West

You know what they say in Scotland, if you don’t like the weather: wait ten minutes. Besides that, there is never any lack of drama in Scotland anyway. So, after yet another one track drive, and a stop for tea, we were back at the west side looking towards the mainland.

West side of Arran overlooking the kintyre peninsula. Dark clouds are drifting in from teh top of teh frame, in the middle white clouds float above blue shadowy hills. In the foreground the grass and a line of trees are in shadow and there is a wind vane in the bottom righthand corner which is blowing far out

Waiting for the ferry to arrive, which was the last one of the day to leave. It had only us and one other car on it.

Arran, looking towards lochranza. Foreground shows green gras and a bench that overlooks grey water of the Firth of Clyde. With the hills and town of lochranza showing in the background. Above is an overcast sky.

Looking back towards Arran

Back on the mainland the sun came out and gave us some glorious views.

Looking towards Arran from the kintyre peninsula. Arran is seen as a blue shadowy hill. The viewpoint is from teh side of teh road with the sun shining on teh grassy verge turning it a verdant green, trees at the water's edge are also lit up by the sun and are bright green . There is a road to the left
Image in bright navy blue and lime green. The top hald is a dark sky with a hint of clouds, a darker outline of hills and a triangle of dark blue water. The bottom diagonal of the image consists of a line of pines that cut accross diagonally and are lit up by the sun to a bright green. The grass and shrubs in the foreground are various shades of dark and bright green and yellow
